Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Recycling

For many years Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) has been considered the ‘black sheep’ of plastics when it comes to recycling.

Whilst there is nothing wrong with EPS as a recyclable material, its high volume-to-weight ratio means it is inefficient to transport both environmentally and financially.

EPS compactor/melting machines reduce the material by a ratio of 50:1. The compacted/melted material is ideal for recycling into a variety of applications including coat hangers, picture frames and home insulation.

Here at Ecogen we have been recycling EPS since 2010 and have an unrivalled understanding of the polystyrene recycling process and markets for the material. We are happy to advise suppliers who are interested in purchasing EPS compaction equipment, and have long term relationships with machine manufacturers.

We buy compacted EPS for recycling from the following industries:

  • White goods packaging (from distribution centres and appliance deliveries)
  • Fish box packaging (from food production companies and smokeries)
  • Manufacturing (from insulation manufacturers. All colours including white/blue/green/black)
